Wingstop has opened its first restaurant in Leicestershire, launching a new site at Highcross Leicester on Thursday.

The US-founded chicken chain has taken a 3,705 sq ft unit in St Peter’s Square at the shopping and leisure centre, with seating for 92 customers. It is the brand’s first location in the county.

The Leicester opening adds to Wingstop’s growing UK estate, which now stands at 85 sites. The business employs more than 3,000 people and has said it aims to expand to around 200 locations over the next five years, including a planned move into Ireland.

The new restaurant will offer the full Wingstop menu, including chicken wings, tenders and burgers, alongside milkshakes, soft drinks, beer and desserts. Food is cooked to order and finished in a range of sauces.

Highcross Leicester is one of the city centre’s main retail and leisure destinations, with more than 100 shops, restaurants and entertainment venues.

Chris Sherriff, chief executive at Wingstop UKI, said: “We’re very excited to finally open our first Wingstop in Leicester. It’s been our most requested city for a long time, and Highcross feels like the perfect home for us.”

Michelle Menezes, centre director at Highcross Leicester, added: “Leicester is a city that loves great food, so it’s no surprise this brand has been one of the most requested additions to Highcross.”
