Historic pub group Young’s and Co.’s Brewery PLC has acquired a freehold waterside pub, The Ship Inn, in Noss Mayo, South West Devon.
Joining the Young’s portfolio, The Ship Inn is a landmark Devon pub, located on the tidal Yealm Estuary in the village of Noss Mayo, close to Salcombe.
The pub comprises a ground-floor 160-cover pub and dining room with exposed timbers, open fires and nautical memorabilia.
The Ship Inn also features its own private pier, a garden and a waterfront terrace accommodating a further 200 covers, as well as The Glasshouse, a 20-cover private dining room on the water’s edge with its own terrace.
The pub was placed on the market by Ed Jefferson from commercial real estate firm Colliers’ Hotel Agency team.
The Ship Inn has been successfully run by the Bullock family for the past 16 years and Young’s is committed to “retain the pub’s values and original features”.
The Ship Inn will be Young’s fifth site in Devon, with sister pubs Boathouse and The Seagate, located in North Devon, the Grove in Exmouth and the City Gate and Double Locks in Exeter.
Simon Dodd, CEO at Young and Co.’s Brewery, said: “We are delighted that the Bullock family has entrusted us with The Ship Inn. Its unique location and excellent reputation make it the perfect addition to the Young’s family and it fits with our overall strategy to celebrate proper pubs with British heritage.
“Following in the footsteps of our fellow waterside pubs, such as The Crown & Anchor, Chichester and the Boathouse, Instow, we will continue to build on the success of the pub and wish the Bullock family a happy retirement.”
Ed Jefferson, from Colliers Hotels Agency, added: “I’m thrilled to have worked with Lisa and Charles Bullock to secure the kind of outcome they were looking for. The Ship Inn is in a great location and thanks to their stewardship, they have built a strong brand, which has the backing of the local community – it ties in perfectly with Young’s ethos.”
