Pret introduces ‘Super Plates’ to meet salad demand

Pret A Manger has introduced a new category of salads called “Super Plates”, aimed at customers seeking larger, protein- and fibre-rich lunch options.

The chain said the range reflects growing demand for more substantial salads, with its salad sales increasing three times faster than its sandwich category over the past year. The new Super Plates are around 450 grams or more, nearly 60% larger than Pret’s existing salads.

Four options are available: miso salmon, chipotle chicken, butternut mezze and shawarma chicken. The dishes feature ingredients such as hand-massaged kale, black bean mole, smoky chargrilled chickpeas and a spiced Japanese-style togarashi seed topping.

According to Pret, the recipes were developed over several months by its head of food and a registered nutritionist. The meat and fish plates contain between 36 and 49 grams of protein, while the vegan butternut mezze provides up to 18 grams of fibre.

The new range will be sold in more than 250 shops in cities including London, Birmingham, Edinburgh and Manchester from this week.
