Bullgogi, the Korean barbecue brand owned by Maguro Group, is set to open what it says will be the UK’s “largest” Korean BBQ restaurant in Manchester on 10 October.
The new 165-cover site at Piccadilly Plaza will be the second Bullgogi in the UK, following its Notting Hill Gate opening in 2019. Maguro Group also operates the Bunsik street food brand, which launched in Manchester’s Piccadilly Gardens in 2023.
The Manchester restaurant will feature tabletop grills, allowing guests to cook and share dishes at the table.
Each booth will also have a digital menu and ordering system. The kitchen will be led by South Korean-born chef Hans Boo, while operations will be overseen by general manager Kadi Voolaine, who previously worked at Bullgogi in London.
The menu will centre on Korean barbecue with a range of meats, seafood and vegetables, alongside traditional dishes such as bibimbap, kimchi jjigae and Korean pancakes. Signature noodle dishes will also be available, including gim guksu and kal bibim myun.
Bullgogi will begin with a soft launch from 3 to 9 October, offering walk-ins only. The restaurant will officially open for reservations and takeaway service on 10 October.
Jae Cho, founder of Maguro Group, said: “Manchester has embraced Korean food with such enthusiasm since Bunsik opened in 2023, and we are thrilled to be bringing Bullgogi here next.
“Korean BBQ is all about gathering around the table, cooking together, and enjoying the moment – it is fun, sociable, and delicious. We can’t wait to share that experience with the city when Bullgogi opens this October.”
