Wine bar Emmanuelle to open in Clerkenwell

The venue has plans to host specialist tastings, masterclasses and producer talks throughout the year, as well as provide a pre or post-dinner hangout

Yuma Hashemi, chef-owner of the Clerkenwell restaurant, The Drunken Butler, will be opening wine bar Emmanuelle this spring on Rosebury Avenue.

Emanuelle, which will be open for walk-ins only and seat 24-covers, is located directly across the road from Persian restaurant, The Drunken Butler, a 20-cover restaurant that opened in 2017.

According to Hashemi, the “more informal” wine bar will allow him to delve deeper into his “lifelong” passion for exploring small-scale winemakers across the world, encouraging conversations around wine.

The venue has plans to host specialist tastings, masterclasses and producer talks throughout the year, as well as provide a pre or post-dinner hangout for guests of The Drunken Butler.

The wine list will incorporate new and old-world wines, natural and biodynamic wines, as well as champagnes. Emanuelle also plans to offer negronis with other “vintage” cocktails made with gin, vermouth and Campari.

Food will be served from the wine bar’s home-style open kitchen and change daily to include French-style charcuterie snacks and small plates. Ad-hoc Persian dishes will also be offered such as traditional Iranian bites, bread, cheese and herbs, aubergine, and cucumber and rose with flatbread.

The Drunken Butler, which is open for dinner from Tuesday to Saturday, serves a single Persian tasting menu inspired by Hashemi’s heritage and old family recipes.
