Soom, a new Korean barbecue restaurant, is set to open in Covent Garden in November, marking the latest venture from the team behind 3Kobros in Canary Wharf.
Located at 99 St Martin’s Lane, Soom will offer a contemporary interpretation of traditional Korean barbecue dining. It has been designed to highlight the communal spirit of Korean cuisine, with guests cooking and sharing premium meats and seasonal vegetables around table grills.
Alongside its barbecue menu, Soom will serve a range of traditional and modern Korean dishes, including vegetarian, vegan and halal options. Desserts will draw on both Korean and Western influences, while the drinks list will feature soju, Korean-style cocktails, teas and non-alcoholic options.
The restaurant’s interior combines traditional Korean aesthetics with modern design elements. Each stone table is fitted with a concealed electric grill, and the main dining floor features a circular 12-seat centre table beneath a sculptural ceiling inspired by Hanok architecture.
A ground-floor bar will showcase handcrafted décor including Goryeo celadon vases, a hanji-wrapped counter and a mother-of-pearl landscape artwork. Toward the rear of the space, a two-metre-wide Jing gong – traditionally used in Korean rituals – will serve as a focal point, symbolising celebration and togetherness.
Soom’s layout also includes curved arches forming semi-private dining areas, as well as a private dining room surrounded by ink-wash panels. A traditional mother-of-pearl folding screen will be displayed in the basement dining hall.
The opening follows continued growth in the popularity of Korean cuisine across London, with Soom aiming to blend social dining traditions with a calm, design-led atmosphere.
