Cornish Bakery has announced it will open three new branches in Hereford, Woodbridge and Portsmouth this summer as part of its wider UK expansion plans.
The company also plans to more than double the size of its existing bakery on Coney Street, York, increasing seating from 16 to 66 by incorporating an adjacent unit formerly occupied by Krispy Kreme. The new space will open on 7 July.
Out of the new sites, Cornish Bakery’s Hereford branch will open first, on 21 July, in a corner unit at 9 High Street near the city cathedral. The shop will seat up to 60 customers.
On 11 August, a 45-seat bakery will launch on Thoroughfare in Woodbridge, Suffolk. It will feature maritime-inspired interior design referencing the town’s boat-building heritage.
Later this year, Cornish Bakery will open a two-storey site with balcony terrace at Gunwharf Quays, Portsmouth, where it already operates a kiosk. It will be the company’s largest bakery to date.
The three launches are part of a longer-term plan to grow the business from 66 to as many as 411 sites across the UK. Cornish Bakery said it had five more properties in legal stages.
Mat Finch, managing director of Cornish Bakery, said: “It’s already set to be an incredible year for Cornish Bakery with us proving our mantra of ‘bakery is the new coffee shop’ right across the country.
“We’re very excited to bring our beautifully designed spaces, high-quality products and exceptional coffee to even more UK high streets and shopping outlets and expand some bakeries whilst planning the design of our biggest-ever property in Portsmouth.”
