Compass Group UK and Ireland has announced a series of senior appointments to its executive team as the food and support services provider targets further growth and enhanced client delivery.
The changes include the appointment of David Turner as chief technology officer, alongside new roles for Charlie Brown, Karl Atkins and Gareth Sharpe.
The moves follow the earlier addition of Sophie Smith, chief people officer, and Michelle Sanders, chief growth officer.
Turner, who joins from Virgin Active where he was group chief technology officer, will lead Compass’s digital transformation across technology, data and cybersecurity.
He previously served as chief technology officer for NHS England during the pandemic, overseeing the NHS COVID-19 app and national vaccination systems, and has held senior roles in healthcare, retail, leisure and financial services.
Meanwhile, Brown, formerly chief executive of Compass’s education division, becomes executive director for strategic accounts, heading a new team to support key clients and drive innovation.
Atkins succeeds Brown as chief executive of education, after six years leading Foodbuy Group. He is credited with accelerating the purchasing organisation’s growth and strengthening its supply chain. He will now oversee Compass’s education brands, including Chartwells, Chartwells Higher Education, Lodestone House and Pabulum.
Additionally, Gareth Sharpe, chief financial officer for Compass Group UK and Ireland, will take on additional responsibility as chief executive of Foodbuy Group, continuing to oversee the organisation’s £2bn procurement operation.
Robin Mills, chief executive of Compass Group UK and Ireland, said: “I would like to welcome David to the team. As technology continues to shape the foodservice industry, this is a great time for him to come onboard, and I have no doubt he will be a great asset to our business.
“Our business is going through a significant period of growth and it’s essential our executive team has the right depth and expertise as we continue to evolve and innovate. By strengthening our leadership, we’re ensuring we stay ahead of industry trends and continue to provide outstanding service and value for our clients and customers.”
