Newcastle’s Landmark Oriental restaurant looks for new owners
The restaurant is considered a ‘household name’ in the city of Newcastle upon Tyne and the wider North East region

Landmark Oriental, a restaurant and bar in Newcastle upon Tyne, has recently hit the market.
Occupying a “prominent” position on Stowell Street, also known as China Town, Landmark Oriental is positioned amongst an established drinking and dining circuit, and the long-established business is considered a “household name” in the city of Newcastle upon Tyne and the wider North East region.
The restaurant is just 500 yards from St. James’s Park, home to Newcastle United Football Club, and therefore it also benefits from many sporting events held there.
Decorated in a modern, contemporary style throughout, the restaurant features a split-level design, starting with a welcoming bar and reception area. It offers “cosy and intimate” dining booths, which lead down to the main restaurant area.
The main area has additional booths and large banqueting tables, for celebrations and business dinners. Overall, the dining area accommodates approximately 150 seated guests.
The business has been owned and operated by the Mak family for the last 20 years, and they are now selling as they plan to retire.
Marslie McGregor, business agent at Christie and Co who is handling the sale, said: “Landmark is a renowned eatery in Newcastle with a very loyal client base. The business offers the opportunity for an experienced operator to take on a growing concern with an excellent reputation, but with scope to increase turnover and profit margins.”
