Hummingbird Bakery bought out of administration

The deal secures 60 jobs and the group’s continued operation in Notting Hill, South Kensington, and Spitalfields

The Hummingbird Bakery, a London-based bakery chain, has announced that it has been acquired by Acropolis Capital.

The American-styled bakery group has been bought through a pre-pack administration process, securing its ongoing operation in Notting Hill, South Kensington, and Spitalfields.

Through the acquisition, the group has protected over 60 jobs, and it aims to support Hummingbird’s recovery and future growth through an injection of capital.

A family investment office, Acropolis has a “strong track record” in leisure and hospitality investing.

Cameron Chartouni, CEO at Acropolis, said: “We are incredibly excited to be the new owners of this iconic brand and look forward to working with the talented team at Hummingbird. 

“We see huge potential to reinvigorate and grow the business while staying true to its American baking heritage.” 

Michael Solomons and Andrew Pear of BM Advisory were appointed as the joint administrators to Hummingbird, and were advised by both Howard Kennedy and Gordon Brothers.

Solomons said: “We are delighted to announce the conclusion of a successful sale of the Hummingbird business to Acropolis Capital, ensuring the ongoing operations of this much loved brand. 

“The sale preserves jobs and ensures continuity of service for the company’s loyal customer base”.
