Danish restaurant group Sticks’n’Sushi is to open its first Manchester restaurant next spring, marking the next stage in its UK growth.

The new venue will occupy a two-storey site in Spinningfields, the city’s financial and dining district, becoming the group’s 17th restaurant in the UK and following a recent launch in Glasgow.

The restaurant will seat 246 guests across a ground-floor dining area, mezzanine level and outdoor terrace. Interiors have been designed by Berlin-based studio Diener and Diener, combining Japanese architectural influences with Scandinavian design.

The menu will feature the brand’s mix of sushi, sashimi, salads and grilled dishes, available à la carte or as set menus. Among the popular dishes are Ebi Bites – tempura shrimp with miso aioli, lime and chilli – and a Maki Maki selection of signature rolls. From the grill, highlights include miso-glazed black cod and chicken wings marinated in garlic, ginger and soy.

Drinks will include sake, Japanese teas, cocktails, premium spirits, wine and the brand’s own-label yuzu pale ale.

The opening will create 75 jobs in Manchester, adding to the company’s 1,500-strong global workforce.

Andreas Karlsson, group chief executive, said: “Manchester is an important milestone in our UK growth strategy. The city’s strong dining culture and reputation as a northern powerhouse made it a natural next step – it’s been on our radar for many years, and we’re delighted to have found the perfect space for us.”
