Stonegate Group has invested more than £6.5m in its Slug and Lettuce brand over the past 18 months, completing 12 refurbishments with four more due by the end of the financial year.
The spending forms part of a wider growth strategy aimed at adapting sites to suit local markets and refreshing interiors to boost the bar chain’s appeal.
More than £1.3m has been spent this summer alone, with work completed in Lincoln, Newcastle Central, Wolverhampton and Liverpool.
Upcoming refurbishments are planned for Leeds Boar Lane, Milton Keynes, Nottingham Market Square and Durham.
Among the largest investments are £837k at Slug and Lettuce Glasgow, £650k each in Birmingham and Manchester Albert Square, and £630k in Solihull. The Liverpool site reopened on 8 August following a £370k overhaul.
The works coincide with the brand’s 40th anniversary this year, four decades after the first site opened in 1985.
David McDowall, chief executive of Stonegate, said: “This significant investment is a real statement of our confidence in the Slug and Lettuce brand and its future. Over the past 18 months, we’ve transformed venues right across the UK to create fresh, vibrant spaces where our guests can celebrate, catch up and make memories.
“As we mark Slug and Lettuce’s 40th anniversary, it’s a great time to reflect on how far the brand has come and to look ahead with excitement about its next chapter.”
