Rare Restaurants to shutter last remaining M Restaurant

Staff will reportedly be offered roles at nearby Gaucho restaurants, and no redundancies are expected

Rare Restaurants is reportedly set to permanently shut its last remaining M Restaurant site next week after 10 years of operation, City AM has reported. The move comes after founder Martin Williams stepped down from parent company Rare Restaurants last October.

Williams, who left the company to focus on his next “personal chapter”, had been CEO of the group for six years.

According to City AM, new CEO Baton Berisha, who assumed the role in March, will now look to focus on the core Gaucho brand following the closure of M.

City AM noted there was speculation that a rent review on the Threadneedle Street site was also behind the decision to shutter.

Sources told the paper that staff will reportedly be offered roles at nearby Gaucho restaurants, and that no redundancies are expected.

The group will also close the Crane Tap pub in Twickenham next week, which leaves only the Gaucho brand in Rare’s portfolio.

M fist opened in the city in 2014, with a second branch opening in Victoria the following year. A third site opened in Canary Wharf in 2022.

Rare Restaurants has been contacted for comment.
