Pizza Pilgrims has reported a 20% rise in revenues to £34.4m for the financial year ending 30 June 2024, up from £28.7m the previous year.
However, pre-tax profits fell to a loss of £0.1m, down from a profit of £0.7m in 2023, while EBITDA – excluding exceptional items – also dropped by 27.3% to £1.6m.
The company said the results reflected a “strong operational performance” despite the decline in profit, and would support continued investment in staffing, ingredients and customer experience.
The chain of pizza restaurants opened new sites in Queen’s Park, Leeds and Euston during the year, and confirmed further openings are planned in Cardiff and Edinburgh.
During the period, Pizza Pilgrims closed its Oxford branch as part of a review of underperforming locations. It said all roles were retained elsewhere in the business and added that it intended to return to Oxford when a suitable site became available.
Thom Elliot, co-founder of Pizza Pilgrims, said: “We remain focused on building a sustainable business for the long-term, delighting customers, and supporting our teams. This year will see exciting new openings in Scotland and Wales, demonstrating our belief that sustainable growth is a result of running a great business.”
The brand received several industry accolades during the year, including Restaurant Brand of the Year at the Casual Dining Awards 2024 and recognition in the 50 Top Pizza Awards as one of the world’s best artisan pizza brands.
