Mitchells and Butlers has completed the off-market acquisition of the Charwood Bar and Grill in Edinburgh from a private seller for an undisclosed sum.
The 6,000 sq ft site will undergo a £2m renovation before reopening later in 2026. The property will trade as a Miller and Carter Steakhouse, marking the third location for the brand in the city.
The group, which operates brands including Browns, All Bar One, and Vintage Inns, is currently seeking further city centre and out-of-town opportunities.
Mitchells and Butlers was advised on the transaction by Savills. Christie and Co represented the seller.
Ginny Uttley, senior acquisition manager at Mitchells and Butlers, said: “We are delighted to announce the acquisition of The Charwood, which marks a significant addition to the Miller and Carter brand in Scotland. Given the restaurant’s strong performance in this region, we are eagerly anticipating the official opening later this year.”
John Menzies, director in the retail team at Savills Scotland, added: “This will be the third Miller and Carter in Edinburgh and its location to the south of the city, close to the Edinburgh bypass, will complement the existing city centre and west Edinburgh restaurants. The substantial renovations now underway will transform the business into one of the best new eateries in this district of Scotland’s capital city.
“We are also now actively seeking further bar and restaurant opportunities for Mitchells and Butlers throughout the country for a variety of its brands and we are very pleased to be helping the business achieve this ambition over the coming year.”
