Big Mamma Holdings, a subsidiary of France-based Italian restaurants operated by Big Mamma Group, has reported that company turnover saw a 10% uplift, from £40m to £44m, in the year ended 31 December.

According to the group’s filings at Companies House, 2024 was the first year where all six restaurants – Gloria, Circolo Popolare, Ave Mario, Jacuzzi and Carlotta in London, and La Bellezza in Birmingham – were operating.

Out of the six, five restaurants operated throughout the year, as La Bellezza only opened in November 2024.

The group attributed its profit uplift to the London restaurants’ strong performance “in excess of expectations”, thanks to consistently high customer feedback scores and strong brand awareness.

As a result, each of these factors has enabled the group to maintain its high demand, with Big Mamma’s restaurants continually fully booked one month in advance up throughout 2024.

However, the company’s profits for the year – before the corporation tax and deferred tax movement – was £2m, spelling a decrease of £1.6m from £3.6m in 2023.

Big Mamma Holdings believes that the main risks to the business are further global pandemic and government-enforced lockdowns preventing the company from trading as dine-in restaurants, which it concedes is an industry-wide risk.

Meanwhile, the UK’s decision to leave the EU has had an impact on Big Mamma’s ability to source staff, food and beverage from the continent.
