Nando’s has had to shut around 50 of its UK outlets due to supply shortages.

Confirming the news to the BBC, it is the latest chain to suffer shortages this summer, as the “pingdemic” has lead to staffing shortages due to self-isolation protocols affecting supply chains.

The shortage reportedly refers to its signature peri peri chicken with the chain also lending out members of its staff to help suppliers.

From this week changes to measures means that fully vaccinated staff no longer have to self-isolate if they are close contacts.

The chain told customers that it was a rapidly evolving situation, and that they should refer to their website for more information.

After customer complaints, the chain responded on Twitter: “The UK supply chain is having a bit of a ‘mare right now. This is having a knock-on effect with some of our restaurants across England, Scotland and Wales.”
