Rick Astley to open London bar

Rick Astley is to open a London bar alongside Danish brewery Mikkeller, the bar will represent Astley’s first foray into the catering industry.

Mikkeller Bar, based in Shoreditch, will serve drinks inspired by the pop star including a craft beer with a red tint in reference to Astley’s hair.

The singer has previously worked with Mikkeller to develop his own Northern Hop Lager, and described the brewery’s co-founder Mikkel Borg Bjergsø as “a good friend”.

Bjergsø said: “We have finally found a fantastic location in the Shoreditch district that suits us perfectly. Meanwhile, we have been fortunate to get to know Rick Astley and his wife Lene Bausager Astley, so now we have also found the perfect partners.

“Of course, we always prefer to work together with people who have a driving force and heart. It’s a huge plus if we also have a personal relationship with them.”

The location of Mikkeller Bar has not yet been disclosed, however the bar is due to open on 19 October.
