Cotswolds Distillery founder Daniel Szor has been installed as the 378th master of the Worshipful Company of Distillers, the City of London livery company established in 1638 to support excellence in the spirits industry.

Szor became a freeman of the company in 2015 and a liveryman the following year, joining the court in 2022.

His appointment acknowledges his role in the resurgence of English whisky and his work in sustainable craft distilling.

After an international career in finance, Szor founded the Cotswolds Distillery in 2014, creating the region’s first full-scale distillery and helping position the Cotswolds as a destination for spirits tourism.

He is co-founder and chair of the English Whisky Guild and has previously served on the boards of the Wine and Spirit Trade Association and the Gin Guild.

He is also a former secretary of state-appointed member of the Cotswolds Conservation Board, reflecting his interest in sustainability and the protection of rural landscapes.

Szor said: “I am delighted to be taking on this new role and it will be a privilege to serve the company this year, supporting its future direction as well as working with key beneficiary partners.”
