Japanese-Peruvian restaurant group Chotto Matte will launch their first restaurant in Manchester in early 2025.

The new culinary destination will occupy the 20,000 sq ft rooftop at the St Michael’s development, overlooking Manchester’s Town Hall.

The restaurant will feature an interior design scheme by designer Andy Martin who has collaborated with the restaurant group since its inception.

The Terrace seating will surround a fire pit overlooking the cityscape, while inside there will be an indoor sushi area with “intimate” table seating. The new location will also feature the group’s signature design elements, such as robata grills, lava stone features and jungle placements.

Continuing the restaurant’s tradition, the menus will take inspiration from Nikkei cuisine, with all dishes combining Japanese and Peruvian flavours. The team will also use entirely non-GMO, pesticide and hormone-free ingredients ensuring that every component of the menu also honours the group’s commitment to sustainability

Kurt Zdesar, co-founder and owner, said: “We are delighted to be working with Gary Neville and his incredible team to launch Chotto Matte in the much-anticipated St Michael’s development, immersing the brand in the dynamic and burgeoning food scene in Manchester.

“The CGI’s provide a real insight into the unique rooftop location of the restaurant. It’s fantastic to mark the first UK launch of Chotto Matte, outside of London, with this site and gives us a new opportunity to showcase our concept to a wider audience.”
