Cinnabon is set to disappear from the UK high street after operator EG On The Move confirmed it will shut all remaining sites as part of a business restructure.
The firm, which partnered with the US bakery brand in 2020, said the closures reflect a decision to concentrate on its core convenience retail network of 150 sites nationwide.
Cinnabon first opened in the UK in December 2020 at Westfield Stratford City in east London, with plans to roll out 150 locations. At its peak, almost 20 sites were trading in cities including London, Manchester, Newcastle, Birmingham, Chester and Derby.
However, the number had fallen to around 12 by early 2024, and customers reported sudden closures in recent weeks, with the company’s website also going offline.
A spokesperson for EG On The Move told Catering Today: “EG On The Move has made the strategic decision to close all Cinnabon locations operated in the UK. This was not a decision taken lightly, but it reflects the strategic shift to focus on our core convenience retail business.
“We extend our sincere thanks to our team members for their dedication, to the Cinnabon brand team for their ongoing partnership, and to our customers for their loyalty and support.”
They added: “EG On The Move remains committed to providing exceptional food and retail experiences across our 150-site network, and we will continue to invest in evolving our offerings to meet changing customer needs.”
The US-based bakery, known for its cinnamon rolls topped with icing and flavours such as Oreo and Biscoff, has attracted a loyal following since its 1985 launch in Seattle. The latest retreat means its products will no longer be available directly in UK outlets.
