Heineken launches Greener Bar concept

The new form of bar is designed to reduce waste, water, emissions, and energy usage within the events industry

Heineken has launched its inaugural sustainable bar concept, the Heineken Greener Bar, in partnership with the ABB FIA Formula E World Championship.

The new form of bar is designed to reduce waste, water, emissions, and energy usage within the events industry.

Per event, the Greener Bar saves up to 6,539 kilograms of event waste, 5,335 kilowatt hours of energy, and 21,128 kilograms of CO2 emissions.

The launch comes as a part of the group’s wider “brew for a better world” sustainability commitments, and is added to by the creation of Heineken’s “The Chill Station”.

Designed to test new and sustainable ways to chill beer, the innovation includes a zero waste design, reusable shipping containers, 100% renewable energy, an energy saving roof, and soil and plant ballast systems.

Bram Westenbrink, global head at Heineken, said: “At Heineken, we are on a journey  towards ensuring that our entire business, from barley to bar, is run as sustainably as  possible.

“We are so excited  to have created a sustainable bar concept that can be developed and utilised at all our  sponsorship properties, to help showcase how we are able to make every part of our business a little greener every day.”

Eric Wallinger, director of sustainability at auditing group Meet Green, added: “Personally I believe the Heineken Greener Bar will be well ahead of 99.9% of other event builds in the industry, both by virtue of its thoughtful and comprehensive environmental design, as well as having it all codified in an assessment.”
