Pub chain Young’s has announced it has removed its £28 for two cauliflower steaks offer, which courted controversy on Twitter after it was pointed out that they were being offered for the same price as two Aberdeen Angus sirloin steaks.

A Young’s spokesperson told Catering Today: “We have a great value steak promotion running through January offering customers 2 6oz sirloin steaks for £28. We always seek to offer our customers a range of vegetarian and vegan dishes and wanted to ensure that choice extended to this offer.

“Having listened to the feedback, we have removed the cauliflower dish and will remain committed to offering value and choice across our menu for all our customers.”

Controversy began on Twitter, when food writer Jamie Klingler shared a photo of the pubs chalkboard displaying the offer at The Queen’s in Primrose Hill, branding the offer “properly mental”.
