A chef whose North Yorkshire restaurant has been described as the ‘best in the world’ in the annual in TripAdvisor awards last year, is set to open a new restaurant called Roots in the heart of York.

There is no firm opening date for the new restaurant as of yet and the exact location is being kept a secret.

Banks’s current restaurant became the only UK restaurant ever to win the prestigious honour of TripAdvisor’s highest rated restaurant, in 2017.

A statement on the Black Swan’s website said: “Roots will offer casual and playful sharing dishes with the same focus on quality cooking that Tommy has become so famous for.”

The venture is something Banks has always wanted to do for a long time and has been long in the planning. A selection of staff will move across to Roots, with those at the Black Swan stepping up.
