Bar soon to close named ‘world’s best’

Dandelyan based in London’s Southbank has been announced as the ‘World’s Best Bar for 2018’ despite announcing its closure on 1 October.

Ryan Chetiyawardana, the bar’s co-founder said he was “flabbergasted” by the award, adding: “In a way it’s the most fitting thing. We’ve worked so hard and with so much passion and now we’re at the pinnacle of the industry.”

When Chetiyawardana announced the bar’s closure on Instagram he said that the bar’s numerous accolades “actually miss what I think we’re great at”, adding that what he felt made the bar great were the “amazing people”.

Chetiyawardana said he was “proud” of what the bar had achieved during its four years, however said he felt “it makes sense to burn it down, start afresh, and rise again”. During the announcement the co-founder said he felt “the conversation has shifted” adding that his Lyan Bars company had retained the premises.
