Vagabond Wines opened what it says is the UK’s largest urban winery at Canada Water in south-east London this December, combining large-scale wine production with a bar, restaurant and events venue.
The 6,000 sq ft site includes a fully operational cellar with capacity for 100 tonnes of wine, alongside space for dining, tastings and events. More than 100 wines will be available by the glass, with customers able to taste wine directly from tanks or barrels.
The opening expands Vagabond’s presence in London and marks a further step in an investment programme backed by Majestic Wine and Fortress Investment Group, which are supporting the brand’s next phase of growth.
The Canada Water site has been designed to host a range of uses, from casual drinking to full-service dining. Vagabond said it will begin hosting large private events and wedding receptions from early 2026, while Christmas party bookings are already under way.
The winery will also offer guided tours, winemaking workshops and tasting sessions, alongside educational courses through the Vagabond Academy, which provides introductory and intermediate wine education.
Vagabond said the new facility will quadruple its English wine production, with all wines made on site. Visitors will be able to try new releases poured directly from the tank or barrel.
The venue forms part of British Land’s wider Canada Water regeneration scheme and is located close to the area’s new leisure centre and waterside development.
Christobell Giles, managing director of Vagabond Wines, said: “This is where London meets the vineyard. Winemaking has come back to the water and we have built a space that connects people to craft, creativity and community.
“You can feel the energy of the cellar while you drink. It is a wine discovery made simple, modern and fun.”
