Port Gaverne appoints new chef

Danny Young has over a decade of experience working as the head chef at Northcote Manor where he was based from 2010 to 2022

Port Gaverne Restaurant and Hotel, located on the north coast of Cornwall, has announced the appointment of Danny Young as its new chef.

The appointment also coincides with the 17th-Century venue’s recent “reinvention”, having undergone an extensive refurbishment of both the restaurant and its bedrooms.

Young has over a decade of experience working in top-flight kitchens, including his previous role as the head chef at Northcote Manor where he was based from 2010 to 2022.

In 2018, he was named the ‘Young National Chef of the Year’ and later achieved an Acorn award in 2021.

Port Gaverne is a locally run beachside pub with rooms that embraces “the true essence of coastal living”.

According to the venue managers, the recent upgrades have “breathed new life” into Port Gaverne, pairing traditional features like a slate bar and wooden beams with an “authentic and welcoming” atmosphere.

Adding to the culinary delights of Port Gaverne is Pilchards, a neighbouring café serving South Asian cuisine. At the helm is head chef Craig Small, who fused local Cornish produce with “bold and playful” global flavours.

The menu at Pilchards, which changes daily, is said to be the “epitome” of dining with a sea view. It also serves Cornish craft beers, cocktails and wines.
