George Club reopens after year-long refurb

The re-launch also welcomes George’s first ever Private Dining Room, which seats 16 guests

George, a heritage private members’ club, is reopening its doors in June 2023 after a year-long refurbishment.

Located in Mayfair, the club is designed by Richard Caring and spearheaded by Patricia Caring.

George features the “largest” covered and heated terrace, a wide collection of works by esteemed artist David Hockney and two dining rooms.

George’s navy blue exterior is set with bespoke light fittings and bespoke furniture made in-house by The Birley Clubs.

Pieces including Olympic Games Munich, Van Gogh Chair (White) and Tyler Dining Room, From Moving Focus are mounted on the dining room’s walls.

Downstairs, George’s subterranean bar which has an “Art Deco” design will feature an “antique” brass bar and “rich” mahogany bar stools.

The re-launch also welcomes George’s first ever Private Dining Room, which seats 16
guests.

Executive head chef Marcus Eaves will work with a number of British suppliers to create a Mediterranean-inspired menu.

The menu will feature familiar “George Classics” alongside light starters, salads, oysters and caviar which will be prepared in the club’s signature open kitchen.

Seafood will be cooked “a la Plancha” and meats will be cooked over embers on the charcoal grill.

Eaves will create his own take on classics, with seasonal plates such as Courgette Flower
stuffed with Sicilian Prawns and Red Pepper Sauce; Slow Cooked Shoulder of Lamb on a bed of Soft Polenta, with Marjoram & Black Olive; and Potato and Parmesan Gnocchi, with Spring Greens and Pecorino and Morel Mushrooms.

To drink, guests will be able to choose from a selection of “organic”, “sustainable” and “biodynamic” wines.

Head mixologist Santo Borzi, and his team, will be embodying a zero-waste ethos, with bespoke garnishes made “using emerging technologies that remove their single-use element”.

Excess citrus and peels will be used to create house liquors, sherbert and citrus tincture. Members will also be able to enjoy cocktails such as “The Royal Hound” and “A Bigger Splash”.

Richard and Patricia Caring, co-executive chairman and chairwoman of The Birley Clubs, said: “We are so proud to reopen the new George Club. It has taken some time and we thank everyone for their patience – but we hope our members will feel the wait was worthwhile. We have worked long and hard in creating the most beautiful site which has given George a new lease of life for many years to come.

“Working with each department has been a labour of love and our members can expect to return to the warmth and care of our team on the ground in brand new surroundings including beautiful new interiors, Mayfair’s largest terrace, stunning art and a sumptuous all-day modern dining experience. George retains its values of being a home away from home where you can meet friends and colleagues for a drink or a meal, or bring the whole
family to enjoy the weekend entertainment with an injection of creativity and culture to add to its DNA.”
