Jess cooks has announced a new range of frozen meals for children has successfully secured £100k of seed funding, as it looks to build on local success and expand into the foodservice sector.

It revealed Jess Cooks aims to disrupt the current baby and toddler food market, with a range of frozen dishes aimed at children aged four and up.

According to the brand, Jess Mackenzie launched the business in 2019 with just £5k of government start-up funding, after spotting a gap in the market for convenient yet nutritious meal solutions suited to older kids.

The group of three angel investors is headed up by Alan Christie, who has over 30 years of experience in the Fresh Produce and Food Manufacturing sector.

The brand said it is currently in the process of transferring production over to a manufacturing partner to meet levels of demand.

Mackenzie said: “I’m thrilled to have secured this first round of funding and the endorsement and support of our investors. I cannot wait to get started on growing the brand, and making sure Jess Cooks is made available to any parent who struggles with the daily grind of feeding their kids healthy, nutritious meals.”

Christie added: “I was primarily attracted by Jess’s strong ethical approach. There is obviously a gap in the market, and Jess has been clear that her primary aim is to influence and improve the quality of food available to children, which I believe is a fantastic base to build a business on.”
