The Haar Restaurant has launched a crowdfunding campaign to help fund a new restaurant launch in St Andrews.

Haar opened its doors in 2019, but was forced to close during the pandemic after failing to agree new terms with their landlord. The restaurant has revealed it has found a new site, however it is in need of a “substantial makeover”.

The new site will be the restaurant’s permanent location, and it added that “every penny” raised from the crowdfund will be spent on the renovation of the site.

It is also asking customers to “pre-purchase tasting menus and special experiences at the new Haar – all at a discounted rate – which will help us raise the funds to complete our renovations and keep Haar in St Andrews where we belong”.

The new premises will offer 12 permanent jobs, and will source produce locally from Fife

Dean Banks, head chef at Haar, said in a video announcing the launch: “We had to recently close our doors for unfortunate reasons, however we are now looking for our forever home.

“It’s pre-buying your dinner so we can raise funds to renovate. We want to be part of the community in St Andrews.”
