Roots head chef confirms plans to step down

Sean Wrest has confirmed that he will step down from his position as head chef at Michelin-starred Roots in York, announcing plans to eventually open his own restaurant.Ā
Wrest, who headed the venue for over two years, took to Instagram to confirm the news, describing his tenure as an āincredible journeyā.Ā
Following his resignation, Wrest, who was an Acorn Award Winner in 2021, said that he intends to āpick up some casual kitchen workā, whilst also spending time with his partner Sam, family and friends.Ā
Eventually, Wrest, alongside his partner, aim to open their own restaurant, with the chef stating that he hopes to begin that process over the ānext year or soā.Ā
Roots in York was granted a Michelin star in January 2021. The restaurant is owned by Tommy Banks, who is also a British Michelin Star head chef.Ā
Wrest said: āAfter two and a half crazy years, now itās the perfect time to move on from Roots and take some time for myself. Itās been an incredible journey and Iām so proud of how much the restaurant has evolved over the last couple of years.ā
