Casual Thai restaurant Kiln in London’s Soho has won first place at this year’s Estrella Damm’s National Restaurant Awards.

The restaurant’s achievement was announced by Restaurant magazine at a ceremony at the Hurlingham Club in London on Monday 11 June. The outlet, owned by chef Ben Chapman, climbed up eight places from where it was listed last year.

The list of the 100 best restaurants in the UK is based on reviews from 150 chefs, restaurateurs and food writers who vote for their best dining experiences over a 12 month period.

Other winners on the night included The Sportsman in Seasalter, Kent which was named Gastropub of the Year. Temper in Soho was given the Cocktail list of the Year accolade while Noble Rot in London was given the Wine List of the Year award.

The Chef’s Table, Chester won the OpenTable Diners’ Choice ‘Fit for Foodies’ title and Nieves Barragán Mohacho was named the Chefs’ Chef of the Year.

Restaurateur of the Year was given to Karam, Jyotin and Sunaina Sethi of JKS Restaurants and The Service Award was given to Core by Clare Smyth.

ODE True Food in Devon was named Sustainable Restaurant of the Year.
