Restaurant fire in Belfast being treated as arson

A fire which broke out at the Blaze and Glaze restaurant on University Road, Belfast, in the early hours of this morning (21 January) is being treated as arson.

According to a report by the BBC, the Police Service of Northern Ireland (PSNI) said the incident was being treated as a “deliberate ignition” and enquiries were continuing.

At the height of the fire, nine fire engines and 55 firefighters from stations across Belfast were in attendance, and initially received emergency calls at 01:12am.

Services believed the fire had been extinguished, but at 11:07am the fire reignited. A statement by Northern Ireland Fire and Rescue Service read: “Firefighters wore breathing apparatuses and used hose reel jets to tackle the fire.

“They remain on the scene and at approximately 11:07am the fire reignited. Firefighters are working hard to extinguish the fire.”
