Independent Indian restaurant operator, Tharavadu, is set to launch its brand-new restaurant concept, Uyare at Victoria Leeds.
Blending the culinary heritage of South India and capturing the flavours of Kerala, Uyare is set to open in January 2025.
Renowned in the region for its specialist South Indian cuisine and authentic dining experience, Tharavadu is now set to build on its success with the debut opening of the 7,000 sq ft Victoria Leeds restaurant.
Strategically positioned in Victoria Gate to capitalise on the high footfall enjoyed at the destination, Uyare will accommodate up to 150-180 guests and feature distinct areas including Bhoomi The Earth restaurant, and Agni The Fire bar.
The menu will offer an array of traditional Kerala dishes, cooked with “time-honoured” techniques. The premium bar, Agni, will include a curated selection of fine wines, champagnes, crafted cocktails, and local craft beers, with plans to host regular themed nights, contributing to Leeds’ hospitality scene and Victoria Leeds’ diverse F&B offering.
Prakash Mendonca, director at Tharavadu, said: “As Leeds is our hometown, we are deeply committed to staying local, and it’s a privilege to be part of this vibrant community. Opening Uyare at Victoria Gate is a significant milestone for us—a chance to celebrate our roots and offer something unique for the people of Leeds.
“Victoria Gate’s prime location allows us to meet growing demand from our loyal customers, expand our offerings, and remain true to what we do best, delivering an authentic, flavourful, and memorable South Indian dining experience.”
Rachel Bradburn, leasing director at Victoria Leeds, added: “To welcome such a popular and successful local operator to Victoria Leeds, and support their wider regional growth, is a really exciting prospect. Independent, regional brands continue to play a key role in our tenant mix and we are pleased to welcome Tharavadu’s newest concept to our established food and drink line-up, providing yet another quality option for our customers.”
