Whitbread, owner of Premier Inn, has sold its 49% stake in healthy eating chain Pure, eight years after acquiring it for £6.8m.

The company acquired the stake in the company which trades as Healthy Retail Limited in 2016 when it had eight restaurants.

A spokesperson for Whitbread stated: “As Pure was not a core part of Whitbread’s strategy, the group has sold its interest to a third party.”

Pure was founded in 2009 and now operates 17 cafés in London and Gatwick Airport, as well as two delivery kitchens.

The company’s sales doubled to £20m in 2022, bouncing back from the pandemic, despite pre-tax losses increasing from £3.45m in 2021 to £4.55m.

Despite this the company opened two new stores last year and expects business to increase as more people return to offices.

Whitbread owns over 800 Premier Inns across the country and owns brands such as Beefeater and Brewers Fayre.
