Loungers has acquired The George on Castle Square in Ludlow for an undisclosed amount, after securing a new lease for the Grade II-listed venue.
The hospitality group operates more than 300 café-bars across the UK and plans to reopen the site under its Lounge brand. The George includes large drinking and dining areas and a south-facing terrace.
Hux Norman, senior acquisitions manager at Loungers, said: “The George sits in an absolute prime location in the town centre, overlooking both the market square and providing return frontage onto the main town car park. It benefits from an extensive external dining terrace with a south westerly orientation, allowing for all day sunlit dining.
“We have wanted to find a site in Ludlow for ten years or so but had yet to find that perfect mix of historic building, pitch and operational capability. We believe that this building ticks all those boxes.”
Tim Widdows, senior business agent at Christie and Co, who managed the sale, added: “It is fantastic to have secured a new lease for The George in Ludlow with Loungers. It reflects strong confidence in the hospitality sector and the enduring appeal of Ludlow as a destination.”
