A fire has broken out at Embankments Floating Bar and Grill, a floating restaurant on the River Medway in Maidstone, Kent.

Kent Fire and Rescue Service rushed to the scene at around 8am this morning, and three fire engines and the water rescue team were initially in attendance.

Crews wearing breathing apparatus are using hose reel jets to extinguish the flames, and the fire service said steady progress is being made at the scene of fire.

At the height of the blaze seven fire engines were in attendance, as well as the water safety team.

Residents and businesses in the area of the incident were also urged to keep windows and doors closed as a precaution due to smoke. Drivers are also asked to avoid the area while firefighters work at the scene.

The cause of the blaze is currently not known, and no casualties have been reported.
