Contemporary Portugese restaurant  Bar Douro has announced it is to open its second site in London’s Broadgate on 28 January.

Like the London Bridge flagship restaurant, the new site will offer its contemporary take on traditional Portuguese cuisine and regional wines.

The Broadgate site will also offer a “more extensive menu”, which has been expanded for the bigger space, and will have 68 covers including 24 on a sheltered outdoor terrace.

The new menu will include regional dishes alongside national classics, which include croquetes de alheira with smoked sausage from Mirandela, fried eels with bairrada sauce, a local delicacy from Aveiro and sandes de leitão, sucking pig sandwich in Bolo do Caco and a flat bread made with sweet potato from Madeira.

Bar Douro will offer a selection of over 250 wines and will host events with independent Portugese wine makers.

Restaurateur Max Graham said: “We have only just scratched the surface of Portugal’s rich culinary traditions and with our second, larger space we are excited to further explore the wealth of Portuguese cuisine.”
