Akoko in Fitzrovia has announced the reopening of its restaurant with a new menu and drinks list.

The restaurant, which opened on 25 September 2021, offers West African cuisine with local ingredients with aromas and spices.

Founder, Aji Akokomi, pays homage to his culinary heritage by using recipes and traditional cooking techniques of smoking, curing and fermenting to maximise the flavours and textures of the ingredients.

The new summer menu will feature ingredients such as Ogiri (melon seed miso), Iru, Fonio (a grain native to Senegal) and Suya spice in dishes such as Dry-aged beef egusi or Melon seed stew, Charcoal grilled suya lamb belly and a Gambian take on grilled Oysters.

The wine list by sommeliers Honey Spencer and her business partner Ania Smelskaya has an emphasis on organic and sustainable wines from “off-the-beaten-track” regions such as Georgia and Wales.

The cocktail menu includes drinks such as the Negroni with cacao nib infused Campari, and an Old Fashioned which uses both bourbon and dark rum, washed with plantain cooked in brown butter.
