The Antelope in Tooting to reopen following £1m refurb
The Antelope pub was where Tooting and Mitcham United Football Club was founded in 1932, and in 1993, the pub hosted the first-ever promotion by the newly formed British Ladies’ Boxing Association

Urban Pubs and Bars has revealed that The Antelope in Tooting is set to reopen following a £1m refurbishment.
Originally known as The Foresters Arms the Victorian building will reopen with its historic interior having been carefully restored, with three large rooms still showcasing elements of its interwar-period refurbishment.
Guests will once again be able to enjoy the original U-shaped bar counter, an ornate island bar back with carved pillars, and a rare full-height glazed screen.
However, the Rankin Room has been given a fresh lounge-like feel, making it more accessible than before, with space for up to 150 guests.
Furthermore, the pub’s garden was a major focus of the refurbishment, featuring a new outdoor bar and seating.
Alongside a brand-new dining room and kitchen, The Antelope will unveil a revamped food and drink offering.
The new menu will feature seasonally changing dishes made with the freshest produce from top suppliers, including HG Walter, alongside an elevated Sunday roast offering.
Chris Hill, managing director of Urban Pubs and Bars, said: “The Antelope is more than just a pub – it’s a pillar of the local community with an incredible history. Our goal, with the refurbishment, has been to respect the pub’s heritage while giving it a fresh new energy, making it the best version of itself.
“Whether you’ll be visiting for a Sunday roast, live music, a midweek pint, or to watch the game, we want The Antelope to feel like home for everyone in Tooting.”
