Daniel Thwaites, owner of hospitality group Thwaites, has announced the appointment of Kevin Georgel as non-executive director with effect from 1 June 2025.

Georgel is currently the chief executive of family owned St Austell Brewery in Cornwall and was previously chairman of the British Beer and Pub Association and the former CEO of Admiral Taverns.

He started his career as a national account manager for Coors Brewing Company for three years before moving to Punch Taverns, where he held different positions such as regional operations director, field operations director and operations director.

Additionally, Georgel served as non executive director at Dartmoor Brewery Limited and as a part time non executive director at Shepherd Neame.

Georgel’s appointment comes as Thwaites reopened The Royal Oak Inn in Keswick following a £1.1m refurbishment.

The Royal Oak, which features 18 bedrooms, was shut down in March to allow for “major upgrades” to all areas of the property.

Thwaites’ turnover for the year to 31 March 2024 grew by 6% to £115.5m (2023: £108.8m). Its operating profit before property disposals also grew by 4% to £11.3m (2023: £10.9m).
