The Fountain Inn, a wet only pub in Consett town centre, has been sold off at an asking price of £285,000.

The pub occupies a “prominent” position on Medomsley Road, and is frequented by locals in the area being renowned for its customer service, organised events and as a function venue.

Owners Kay and Malcolm Driver had operated the pub for over 17 years and were looking to retire.

The Fountain Inn has completed a full refurbishment and reopened on 23 May. The new owners and management team are aiming to focus on offering a wide range of beers, ales and wines, as well as showcasing local music and talent.

Marslie McGregor, business agent at Christie and Co, who handled the sale, said: “The Fountain Inn presented an excellent opportunity for an operator to take over a long-established business, allowing the previous owners to retire after 17 years.

“With an excellent reputation and town centre location, we had a good level of interest in this site, demonstrating the demand we are experiencing for freehold hospitality businesses. We wish the new owners all the success in their new venture.”
