Hall and Woodhouse has announced that two members of the founding family’s eighth generation have been appointed to the board, continuing the brewery and pub operator’s tradition of family stewardship.
Tatiana Woodhouse joins as family director and David Wheeler as next generation family director to “play a role in upholding the company’s values and long-term strategy”, the firm said.
They join Matthew Woodhouse, also part of the eighth generation, who works full-time as head of offer and hospitality. Chairman Anthony Woodhouse remains in his role and as senior family director.
Anthony Woodhouse said: “It is an absolute pleasure to welcome David into the next generation role, and to see Tatiana promoted to family director. We take the stewardship of our 250-year-old business – something incredibly precious – extremely seriously.
“Both Tatiana and David will add greatly to the dynamic of the board. The transition also sees the well-earned retirement of Mark Woodhouse, who has diligently served the company for 45 years. He leaves a lasting legacy.”
Tatiana Woodhouse has more than nine years of experience in the charity and humanitarian sector, working with non-governmental organisations in Lebanon. She now runs CodeBrave Foundation, a UK charity that supports tech education projects for disadvantaged youth in Lebanon.
She said: “I have always been deeply proud of our family’s values-led business, striving to be a real force for good, doing the right thing by its team and guests. I am honoured to help ensure H&W remains true to its founding values, continuing to serve our team and communities, providing a sustainable business for future generations.”
Meanwhile, David Wheeler studied medicine before completing a master’s degree at the Royal College of Music. A French horn player, he has worked with the BBC Symphony and London Symphony Orchestras.
He added: “I am really proud to have this opportunity to represent my generation on the H&W board. In learning more about the family business, I have come to better understand my family’s roots and values, feeling more connected to my grandmother.”
The appointments coincide with Hall and Woodhouse’s 248th anniversary on 8 June 2025, which the company marked with the release of a limited-edition beer named Frank’s Integrity, honouring Frank Woodhouse, who chaired the firm from 1916 to 1952.
