German Doner Kebab (GDK) has confirmed it will open a total of 12 new branches by the end of the year creating 480 new jobs.

The next five sites said to open are situated in Batley, Plymouth, Peterborough, Liverpool and London’s Bethnal Green.

GDK was founded in Germany in 1989 and later launched in the UK in 2016 by United Brands as a franchise.

There are currently 47 branches in the UK and more than 1,500 employed staff members.

The chain reported plans for expansions after the business saw a rise in popularity as result of the pandemic.

During the peak of the Covid-19 lockdown, the chain reported a boost in sales by partnering with delivery services such as Deliveroo, Uber Eats and Just Eats, the mobile option for the chain was said to be “particularly successful” with people self-isolating.

Daniel Bunce, UK and Europe managing director of GDK, said he hopes to open another 60 branches in the UK next year, creating another 2,500 jobs.
