Portsmouth City Council has launched a search for a new operator to manage the Spinnaker Tower, including responsibility for its bar, café and events operations.
The 170-metre structure, located at the entrance to Portsmouth Harbour, features three viewing decks, a Sky Walk glass floor, and multiple hospitality spaces, including a waterfront bar and a café on the second viewing level.
The current management model also includes the use of the tower as a private events space alongside its primary function as a tourist attraction.
The council is seeking an experienced leisure operator to invest in the site and manage its daily visitor operations and seasonal events.
The tower is situated adjacent to the Gunwharf Quays outlet centre and is within a 10-minute walk of the Portsmouth Historic Dockyard.
The council stated that the new partnership is intended to support the city’s visitor economy and ensure the long-term viability of the site.
Colliers’ Licensed and Leisure team has been appointed by the council to conduct the search for the new operator.
Councillor Steve Pitt, leader of Portsmouth City Council, said: “The Spinnaker Tower is our city’s beacon, and we are looking to unlock the next chapter for this landmark. We want a new operator who will invest, innovate and deliver an even better experience for residents and visitors. We’re opening the door to experienced leisure operators who can bring imagination and vision to one of the UK’s waterfront attractions and take it to the next level.”
Paul Bugeja, director in the Colliers team, added: “We expect interest from a range of operators who will look at the opportunity to reinvest and unlock the potential to create a leisure destination within the south coast’s recognisable landmark.”
