Caffè Nero has announced the appointment of Lysa Hardy as its new UK chief executive with immediate effect, as the coffee chain reports record first-half sales

Hardy will lead the UK Caffè Nero business and report to founder and group chief executive Gerry Ford, who will retain his current role. She will also work alongside managing director Glyn House, who remains in post, with both overseeing UK operations.

Hardy joins the business with more than two decades of experience in senior roles across UK retail, having most recently held the chief executive role at Hotel Chocolat, as well as other senior positions at T-Mobile, Joules and Holland and Barrett.

Earlier in her career, Hardy worked in marketing, commercial and customer leadership roles, and has also served as a non-executive director.

The appointment follows a record first half for the group, which reported sales of £338m, up on the same period last year, supported by 5% like-for-like growth. UK first-half sales reached £185.4m, an increase of 7% year-on-year, including 5% like-for-like growth.

Ford said: “I’m delighted to welcome Lysa to Caffè Nero. Her experience and track record makes her a great complement to Glyn and allows us to take the UK Caffè Nero business forward in the next phase.”

Hardy added: “I’m delighted to be joining the Caffè Nero UK business; it’s an exciting brand which has consistently outperformed the market.”
