The Maltshovel in Pontefract has reopened today (28 March 2024) following a £260,000 refurbishment.

The Grade II listed Tudor revival building in which The Maltshovel is situated is home to a 14th Century cellar that is rumoured to have tunnels leading to Leeds Castle.

The pub, which received funding from Craft Union, features a complete interior refresh, with the investment also reviving The Maltshovel’s newly named function room, Frankie’s Bar.

As a result, the pub is now equipped to host private parties, band nights and other events.

To celebrate the reopening, the pub is hosting a launch party which will include interactive challenges, games, raffles as well as the Open the Box game whereby the winner will receive a £1000 cash prize.

Operators Rob and Sammie Mirfin, who ran the pub for almost five years, said: “We are so excited to welcome our locals back to the pub.

“The investment has really breathed new life into the pub and we have big plans for the year ahead to keep the momentum going. Our launch day party is set to be an epic day and evening, all are welcome, and we hope to see you there.”
