The RMT has announced that it has accepted a pay deal from the Rail Delivery Group, ending strike action until at least spring 2024.
Members of the union have accepted a 5% pay increase which is backdated to 2022-2023 alongside a guarantee of no compulsory redundancies until the end of 2024.
While the RMT will no longer take strike action, train drivers union Aslef has announced a raft of strikes between Saturday 2 December and Friday 8 December.
UKHospitality has responded to the news saying it is “relieved” stating that hospitality businesses will now have “certainty over the festive period”.
Kate Nicholls, UKH chief executive, said: “We are not out of the woods yet, with strikes by ASLEF set to cause significant disruption next week. We estimate the planned rolling strikes and overtime ban will cost the sector at least half a billion in lost sales, bringing the total impact of the disruption to over £4bn.
“I would urge ASLEF to follow the lead of the RMT and commit to holding no further strikes in December and the New Year. Any further strikes would decimate the essential Christmas trading period for businesses, prevent millions from working and interrupt families’ festive plans.”
Mick Lynch, RMT general secretary, added: “Our members have spoken in huge numbers to accept this unconditional pay offer and no compulsory redundancies until the end of 2024.I want to congratulate them on their steadfastness in this long industrial campaign.
“We will be negotiating further with the train operators over reforms they want to see. And we will never shy away from vigorously defending our members’ terms and conditions, now or in the future. This campaign shows that sustained strike action and unity gets results and our members should be proud of the role they have played in securing this deal.”
