Loungers’ Brightside opens second site in Cornwall

The former Route 38 site has been completely transformed over the past four months to replicate the interiors of its sister site on the A38 south of Exeter

Brightside, Loungers’ roadside dining concept, has opened its second site on the A38 at Trerulefoot in Saltash, Cornwall, today (8 June).

The former Route 38 site has been completely transformed over the past four months to replicate the interiors of its sister site on the A38 south of Exeter, which takes inspiration from the 1970s and 1980s.

As a result, the dining area has been furnished with creamy Formica-topped tables with mid-Century inspired dining chairs and booths upholstered with orange and brown striped train seat fabric.

According to Brightside, its restaurants will be friendly, warm and wholesome and will endeavour to bring back the pleasure of heading out and exploring.

The roll-out of Brightside comes as Loungers believes there is scope to create “a truly national brand” and has ambitious plans to open more Brightside restaurants in all corners of the UK.

Part of this growth includes the launch of Brightside Honiton in July 2023.

Alex Reilley, founder and chairman of Loungers plc, said: “Brightside Saltash has been a labour of love and we can’t wait to finally welcome customers through the doors.  Summer holidays are just around the corner so we hope locals and travellers on the way down to Cornwall will enjoy our reinterpretation of roadside dining.

“Awaiting them is top-notch hospitality and really excellent, wholesome food in warm, welcoming and stylish surroundings where they can relax and recharge.”

He added: “Since launching Brightside Exeter back in February, we’ve been incredibly well-received, confirming our thoughts that roadside dining needed reinvigorating and that travelling shouldn’t just be about the final destination, but the journey itself.”
