Comptoir Group revenues up 50% to £31m in FY22

Comptoir plans to pursue growth through organic sales, new owned sites and franchising, as it has already undergone refurbishment programmes

Comptoir Group has revealed a strong financial recovery in FY22 as full-year revenues soared by 49.9% to £31m compared with £20.7m in 2021, and gross profit rose by 44.3% to £24.4m compared with £16.9m in 2021. 

The results were driven by like-for-like store growth in the period and the absence of lockdowns, which first impacted the first quarter of 2021.

However, the group’s profit margin was 3.1% lower than that of FY21, as this financial year was affected by the change in the VAT rates and inflation.

In addition, distribution and administrative costs increased by 21.7% following the increase in trade, which affected the group’s adjusted EBITDA as it decreased by £0.2m to £2.8m compared with the prior year. 

Looking ahead, Comptoir plans to pursue growth through organic sales, new owned sites and franchising, as it has already undergone refurbishment programmes in certain branches. 

Tony Kitous, founder of Comptoir Group, said: “When I was eight, my mother used to help me prepare harissa and merguez sandwiches and make fresh lemonades, and I would set up a stall outside the football stadium near my house.

“It’s about making people feel welcome – it’s about hospitality and I naturally just love welcoming people, even on a pavement.”
